Total Health And Wellness

At Hawkes Dental, we believe great dentistry goes far beyond clean teeth. Our patient-centered, whole-health approach combines advanced technology, personalized education, and integrative care to support your well-being — at every age, at every visit, and for life.

When you choose Hawkes Dental in Litchfield, Michigan, you’re in the hands of Dr. Cody Hawkes—a dentist with a truly unique perspective on oral health. Before dentistry, Dr. Hawkes worked as a registered nurse, giving him a deep understanding of the connection between your mouth and your overall health. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and a member of the Michigan Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the Academy of Oral and Systemic Health.

Committed to evidence-based care, Dr. Hawkes completes continuing education courses monthly to stay current on the latest research and best practices.

Our Patients Are Our Priority

From your first phone call to your final appointment of the day, every interaction with our team is designed to make you feel comfortable, respected, and heard.

We’ve built a welcoming, judgment-free environment where patients of all ages feel genuinely cared for — and where your questions and concerns are always met with compassion, not judgment.

State-of-the-Art Technology

Technology supports our whole-health approach to dentistry at Hawkes Dental.

We use modern diagnostic and treatment tools to learn more about your oral health, improve comfort, and help you make informed decisions about your care.

Guided Biofilm Therapy

At Hawkes Dental, we’ve taken professional cleanings a step further with Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT)—a modern, minimally invasive approach to cleaning your teeth that goes beyond what traditional methods can offer.

GBT uses a combination of disclosing dye and gentle air-powder technology to identify and remove biofilm (the soft bacterial layer that leads to cavities and gum disease) from every surface of your teeth—including hard-to-reach areas that traditional scraping often misses. The process is thorough, comfortable, and far gentler on your enamel and gums.

GBT provides a deeper clean with a more comfortable experience. We recommend most patients visit every six months, though Dr. Hawkes will customize a schedule based on your individual needs.

Cone Beam CT and AI Diagnostics

Our cone beam CT scanner captures detailed 3D images of your teeth, roots, jawbone, and surrounding structures, giving Dr. Hawkes a more complete view than standard dental X-rays alone may provide. This technology can be especially useful when evaluating complex areas, planning treatment, or looking more closely at concerns that are difficult to see in two-dimensional images.

We also use AI-assisted diagnostic technology to support our review of dental images. These tools can help highlight areas that may need closer attention, giving our team additional information as we evaluate your oral health and discuss appropriate next steps with you.

Salivary Diagnostics

Your saliva can provide useful information about the bacteria present in your mouth. Through salivary diagnostics, we can better evaluate your oral microbiome and identify bacterial patterns associated with concerns such as gum disease.

These insights support our broader focus on the connection between oral and systemic health.

Ozone Therapy

Hawkes Dental incorporates ozone therapy into care as part of our commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy oral environment. We use ozone water in our GBT water lines during every visit, for all patients. Ozone may also be used as an adjunct to help manage bacteria in targeted areas of the mouth and support a cleaner environment during certain treatments.

Because ozone can be used alongside other dental procedures, it gives Dr. Hawkes another tool to support treatment while preserving healthy tooth structure whenever possible. Its use depends on your individual needs and the type of care being provided.

Sleep Dentistry

Sleep and breathing can have a significant effect on overall wellness. Dr. Cody Hawkes is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and provides care for patients with sleep-related breathing concerns.

For appropriate patients with sleep apnea, customized oral appliance therapy may provide another treatment option for keeping the airway open during sleep.

Virtual Reality Headsets

Dental visits can feel stressful for some patients. Our virtual reality headsets provide an immersive distraction during treatment and can help make appointments feel more comfortable for patients who experience dental anxiety.

VR gives you something else to focus on, which can make it easier to relax during your visit and may reduce the stress associated with certain procedures. It’s one of the ways Hawkes Dental uses technology to support a calmer, more patient-focused experience.

Preventative Care

Preventative care is another key part of our whole-health approach at Hawkes Dental, helping you protect your oral health and reduce the risk of future problems.

Routine Exams

Consistent dental exams give Dr. Hawkes the opportunity to monitor your oral health and identify changes before they develop into larger problems. During these visits, we evaluate your teeth, gums, bite, and other areas of concern while looking for signs of decay, gum disease, wear, damage, and other issues that may need attention.

Routine exams also give you time to ask questions and discuss any changes you have noticed between visits. When needed, we can pair your exam with professional cleanings and other preventive services based on your individual needs.

Professional Cleanings with Guided Biofilm Therapy

At Hawkes Dental, we’ve taken professional cleanings a step further with Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT)—a modern, minimally invasive approach to cleaning your teeth that goes beyond what traditional methods can offer.

GBT uses a combination of disclosing dye and gentle air-powder technology to identify and remove biofilm (the soft bacterial layer that leads to cavities and gum disease) from every surface of your teeth—including hard-to-reach areas that traditional scraping often misses. The process is thorough, comfortable, and far gentler on your enamel and gums.

GBT delivers a deeper level of clean in a more comfortable experience. We recommend most patients visit every six months, though Dr. Hawkes will customize a schedule based on your individual needs.

Biological Dentistry

Prevention is an important part of our whole-health approach at Hawkes Dental. Biological dentistry considers the environment of the mouth and how daily habits, bacteria, and oral health may relate to your overall well-being. Rather than waiting for problems to develop, we focus on supporting a healthier oral environment and reducing future risks when possible.

Along with salivary diagnostics, we may recommend products or strategies such as probiotics, xylitol, and hydroxyapatite based on your individual needs. These tools can help support the oral microbiome, protect enamel, and complement regular professional care and good habits at home.

Dental Sealants for Kids: A Smart Shield Against Cavities

Children’s back teeth have deep grooves and pits that can trap food and bacteria, even with good brushing habits. Dental sealants add a thin protective coating over these chewing surfaces to help keep cavity-causing bacteria out.

Sealants are especially helpful when a child’s permanent molars first come in, since these teeth can be harder to clean thoroughly. The treatment is quick, painless, and can provide lasting protection during the years when children are still developing strong brushing habits.

While sealants are most commonly recommended for children and teens, some adults may benefit as well, particularly if their molars do not already have decay or fillings.

Building Good Habits at Home

The work doesn’t stop when you leave our office. Effective daily oral hygiene is one of the most powerful things you can do for your long-term dental health.

Our team takes time at every visit to coach patients on proper brushing and flossing techniques—because how you care for your teeth at home matters just as much as your professional care.

We’ll help you choose the right tools, build a routine that works for your lifestyle, and identify any habits that may be putting your smile at risk.

Why Choose Hawkes Dental?

Dr. Cody Hawkes brings a broader health perspective to dentistry through his previous experience as a registered nurse and his continued focus on the connection between oral and systemic health. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and a member of the Michigan Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and Academy of Oral and Systemic Health. He also completes continuing education courses at least monthly, helping him stay current with research, technology, and evolving approaches to preventive care.

That background supports the way we care for patients at Hawkes Dental. Rather than focusing only on individual dental problems, we look at factors that may influence your long-term health, including sleep, inflammation, oral bacteria, daily habits, and preventive care. Using modern tools, we can gather more information about your oral health and build care around your individual needs and goals.
